You can probably see in the discussions online how passionate every Filipino is in defending their chosen candidate or speaking against other people’s choices. There are people who get death threats for voicing out their stand on the matter, and all of this can be seen in different conflicting perspectives. But when you stand back a bit (or maybe really far) from all of this, one gets the sense that somehow, everything happening are actually good signs – that Filipinos are tired of being apathetic and are really concerned for the future of this country and that they want to take action! When you look at it, people are just standing up for what they believe is best for the country.
Unfortunately it is not so easily seen – that everyone’s intention is to do what is best for the country. We all know how easy it is to get lost in all the emotions in the news and updates, the creative propaganda in favor or against our chosen candidate. But the reality is that every single one of us is in fact doing our best to make sure that we can make an informed decision this coming May 9 and that we all want to see changes in our political system. Because we all know how much potential this country has, and all this conflict are just signs that indeed we want to move forward as a nation.
Around this time most, if not everyone of us have already decided who we’re going to vote for. And yes it will matter who is going to win but somehow it matters less than in the years before this. I think all this enthusiasm, this concern, this love for the country and this painfully agonizing desire to see change in this country are our motivations to make sure we do go in the right direction. And if we are organized and this doesn’t die down even after the elections, and hopefully the next 6 years and maybe even more, and if we truly are objective about things, I think we are really going to see changes in this country for the better. Not because we are going to wait for the next president to do his “job”, but because we are going to actively participate in making sure he/she does. Actively participating means walking the talk, not only talk the talk but really walk the walk. This means organizing ourselves, it means political vigilance during and after elections, it means nothing goes unnoticed whenever we see something conspicuous. It means taking action or calling for help, or long conversations until an objective decision is made so that things can go forward. This doesn’t mean we are not going to make mistakes because unfortunately we will, it only means that when we do, we don’t give up on each other. And this will mean many things but it will always be about coming together, working together as a community and as a nation.
I hope all the people here that are actively engaged in political conversations in Facebook or other social media realize that WE ARE ON THE SAME TEAM and that is TEAM PHILIPPINES!
Imagine we organize ourselves so that it won’t matter whoever is sitting there in Malacanang…When they [the government] do something that is beneficial for a chosen few, or they decide things against public interest, they would have to answer to us, THE FILIPINO PEOPLE!
Imagine we organize ourselves so that it won’t matter whoever is sitting there in Malacanang. I hope you can still remember #TheMillionPeopleMarch and how it cascaded in the whole country through social media. And what is happening online has the same potential, only this time the population is bigger and that we are not against something (all though we might be in some instances) but this time we are for something and that is Change. When they do something that is beneficial for a chosen few, or they decide things against public interest, they would have to answer to us, THE FILIPINO PEOPLE!
I believe all of us are tired of seeing this country go to waste, not seeing its true potential. Perhaps, like me, you are also wishing for the day when we all learn to work together. I think even the elite families in the country would also be excited to see some changes in politics, culture and the economy of the country.
Imagine the Philippines as one of the top FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES in the world, not just to have the title but really be one of the key players in giving direction to a world that is peaceful, sustainable and that nurtures human beings to develop their highest potentialities. Just imagine! Are you not willing to do everything in your capacity to see that day come? Is it not worth dying for? Is it not worth living for?
